On the basis of the literature review, there were identified the problem and the relevance of the development of the technology for introducing additives of nano-sized fillers into aluminum alloys in order to determine the mechanism for controlling the structurally dependent properties. As such an additive, alumina fibers of 10-20 nm in diameter were selected.
Titanium carbide (TiC) was consolidated with 20 mol% zirconium carbide (ZrC) by spark plasma sintering in the temperature range of 1773–2473 K, and the phase formation, microstructure, relative density and mechanical properties were investigated. The composite consisted of Ti-rich (Ti, Zr)C and Zr-rich (Zr, Ti)C solid solutions at 1773–2373 K, and was single-phase (Ti, Zr)C at 2473 K.

Silicon carbide bulk crystals were grown using the physical vapor transport (PVT) method. Crystal growth modeling was used to obtain the required inert-gas pressure and temperatures for sufficiently large growth rates. We expanded the crystals by designing a growth chaer which has a positive temperature gradient along the growth interface.
